Coronavirus (COVID-19) - Impact on the Courts

The impact reaches far and wide
The current situation impacting on our day to day lives is also affecting how the Courts operate. The Lord Chief Justice has issued a message to Judges that preside in the Civil and Family Courts.
The underlying message is that it is imperative to maintain access to justice and in order to do that technology will have to play its part. As matters unfold it is likely that there will be more use of telephone hearings, video hearings, and where attendance at Court is required social distancing measures.
The days and weeks ahead will determine how the above is put into practice, but what is clear is the need to be flexible and adaptable to change.
The full statement from the Lord Chief Justice can be accessed at the Judiciary website.
Chattertons have a specialist Dispute Resolution Team and will be watching the above unfold and will take steps to advise current and new clients as to how it may affect their cases.
