Cash for Kids Day

  • Posted

Cash for Kids is a grant-giving charity helping the children that need it most across the UK. Their annual awareness campaign Cash for Kids Day took place on Thursday 2nd May.

This year’s theme, ‘Hunger has no holiday’ recognises that for some local children their school dinner is the only hot meal of the day. During the holidays struggling families simply can't afford enough food, so they're often eating unhealthy options or even nothing at all.

Money raised for Cash for Kids Day will help reach out with fun activities and that important meal during the holidays.

Katherine Bunting, Partner and Head of the Charity Committee and Gemma Smyth, Finance Manager were invited to the Cash for Kids Day BIG Breakfast at Hits Radio Lincolnshire as a thank you for Chattertons support so far this year.

They met with Joseph Begley and the breakfast show team and enjoyed delicious food, insights from Cash for Kids and took part in group versions of Alex and Nicola’s Throwback Showdown and Joseph's Famous Five.

Katherine Bunting said: " This is the first time Chattertons has raised money specifically for children, and this is such an exciting charity to work with. I'm really pleased that already this year we have raised over £2000 for the charity.  It was inspiring to hear local partners with CFK, like SOLDAS (South Lincolnshire Domestic Abuse Service/Boston Women's Aid) and LEAP (Lincolnshire Employment Accommodation Project) speak about what a difference the funding they received from CFK makes to the families they work with, and how wonderful Mission Christmas gifts are every year. The event at Lincoln yesterday was great fun and a highlight was watching the very brave Alex Divers have his head completely shaved, live in front of all of us, raising over £500 for Cash for Kids in the process!"

Gemma Smyth said: “I always like to donate to charities that relate to kids as I come from a low-income family and so I know how tough it can be for both parents and children when funds are low.  When my friend Nikki took up the role at Cash for Kids I immediately wanted to help in some way.  I donated toys for the first year's Christmas fund and asked Nikki if she would mind if I nominated CFK for Chattertons Charity of the Year.  Each year we ask all staff to nominate their chosen charity and then we are all able to vote for our favourite for the year.  I'm so happy that my nomination has won and that we can now work towards raising as much as we can up to Christmas to help relieve some pressure on struggling families.”

Nikki Rhodes, Cash for Kids Charity Manager said, “It was such a joy to see everyone come together for our wonderful cause and have so much fun in the process. Your eagerness to participate and your generosity towards our charity fundraiser is truly amazing!”

“A special thank you to our beneficiaries for sharing their touching stories and highlighting how the funds raised will benefit the children in our area. Your presence and words truly touched our hearts and inspired us all to continue our efforts to make a difference in their lives.”
